Recent Study Finds Arts and Culture Contribute Over $71 Million in
Economic Activity to Onondaga County

(Syracuse, NY)—A recent study conducted by the Arts and Culture Leadership Alliance (ACLA) has found that arts and culture organizations in Onondaga County reached more than 1.8 million people and generated over $70 million in economic activity in 2009. A summary of the findings:

  • Arts and Culture reach 1.8 million people
  • Arts and Culture economic impact: $70 million
  • Arts and Culture student reach: 160,000 students

  • Arts and culture attendance exceeds the total home attendance of all Syracuse University athletic events, the Syracuse Chiefs and Syracuse Crunch combined (1.4 million) and the total attendance of the New York State Fair (1 million) in 2009

Total expenditures by the 23 organizations participating in the survey exceeded $26.3 million and event-related spending by attendees is estimated at more than $44.5 million, for a total industry impact in Onondaga County of $71 million
